Where CoinStats wins
It is mobile-first and we are not: CoinStats has apps, we have a web app that happens to work on a phone. It sells a public API as a real product, which we do not offer at all. And its free allowance of 20,000 transactions is generous by the standards of anyone who counts transactions.
It is also the closest thing in this cluster to a like-for-like comparison. CoinStats is a tracker, not a tax tool, which is the same category we are in. So the comparison comes down to what each of us withholds until you pay.
The number that is behind the paywall
Profit and loss is a Premium feature on CoinStats, and so are custom alerts, the portfolio heatmap and asset-allocation analytics. A free CoinStats account tells you what you hold and what it is worth right now.
What it does not tell you for free is whether you are up or down, which is a different question and usually the real one. A balance is a fact about today. Profit and loss is the story of how today happened, and it is the part that needs the history to be right.
On our free tier, profit and loss, cost basis, the flow maps and the full reconstructed history are all included. What we cap is how many accounts you connect: 2 exchanges and 5 wallets, one account per exchange.
Side by side
One row here deserves reading carefully rather than scanning. On transfer matching we are reporting what CoinStats publishes, not testing what it does.
| Capability | WhereItGoes | CoinStats | What that means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Profit and loss on free | Yes | No | CoinStats puts profit and loss behind Premium, along with custom alerts, the portfolio heatmap, asset-allocation analytics and an ad-free view. |
| Free without a transaction cap | Yes | No | CoinStats Basic allows 10 portfolios, 20,000 transactions and 10 syncs per portfolio per day, with support inside 72 hours. We cap accounts, never transactions or history. |
| Published transfer matching | Yes | No | CoinStats publishes no automatic transfer-matching capability; the documented control is a profit-and-loss setting for counting transfers. That is an absence of a published claim, not proof of absence. |
| NFT coverage | No | Partial | CoinStats supports NFTs on Ethereum and Base only. Our NFT support is minimal, so neither of us is the tool for an NFT-heavy portfolio. |
| Mobile app and public API | No | Yes | CoinStats ships mobile apps and sells a public API as a product of its own. We have neither today. |
| Published monthly price | Yes | Yes | CoinStats Premium is $15.99 a month, or $13.99 a month billed annually; Degen is $89 a month, or $62.91 a month annually. Pro here is $12.99 a month or $120 a year. |
Each capability above links to the CoinStats page the claim was read from, checked on 2026-08-10. Feature lists and prices change without notice: if one of these has moved, tell us at support@whereitgoes.money and we will correct it.
Why the transfer row is worded that way
Moving your own coin between your own accounts is not a sale. A tracker that cannot tell the difference books a disposal on one side and a fresh purchase on the other, invents a gain you never made, and resets your cost basis to the day you moved it.
We match those automatically: on an exact transaction-hash match where a hash exists, otherwise on asset, amount and time, with anything uncertain sent to a review queue instead of guessed. The rules are published, including the tolerances.
CoinStats may well handle transfers competently. We simply could not find a published claim to check, so we are not going to assert either way. If we have missed a page where CoinStats documents this, send it to support@whereitgoes.money and the row changes.
Which one to use
Use CoinStats if the phone is where you want this to live, if you want to build on an API, or if a very large transaction count on a free plan matters more to you than free profit and loss. Use us if you want the numbers to mean something: 11 exchanges and 52 chains rebuilt into one history, with the cost basis and the flow of it visible before you pay anything.
We would rather you read our own limits before you trust a page where we chose the comparison. No downloadable tax reports, no live DeFi position valuation, minimal NFT support, no mobile app, and history that stops where each exchange API stops: what WhereItGoes does not do
